Unusual Silver Niello Brooch Depicting Garuda

An unusual Siamese brooch depicting Garuda, a winged mythical creature which is a cross between a human and an eagle and found in both Hindu and Buddhism religions.  In this image Garuda is carrying the Hindu god Vishnu.  The image of Garuda symbolizes the Thai Monarchy.  It is an ancient and enduring symbol.  The brooch is sterling silver with niello.  Measuring 46mm x 38mm with hinge pin and ‘C’ catch.  Weight 8.5g.
