Pietra dura is the art of using the inlay technique of using cut and fitted, highly polished coloured stones to create images. It is considered a decorative art. This Victorian brooch is a fine example of this art having a lovely floral design. Mounted in a 15ct yellow gold frame (no hallmark but tested) with a pretty pearl (52 in total) edging with an old cushion cut diamond set into a fleur de lis design at north, south, east and west. Hinge pin and ‘C’ catch. Gross weight 21g.
