Fabulous Norweigan brooch by the silversmith Aksel Holmsen.
Aksel Holmsen started his career training under the acclaimed David Andersen from 1889 to 1892. Having finished his training in 1901 he continued to work for David Andersen until 1904. He established his own silver and enamel workshop and was joined by his son Ivar in 1942. The company was founded in 1932 in Sandefjord Norway and is well known for modernist aesthetic. Much of their work is silver gilt with enamelled guilloche and basse-taille designs. This brooch is typical of their work and is a lovely stylish design. Possibly made in the 1940s.
Measuring 60mm x 33m with blue and white enamelling, silver gilt with hinge pin and roll over safety catch. Weight 9.2g.
